ENSEMBLE ECONOMIQUE (USA,) PURPLE PILGRIMS, COOKIE BROOKLN and the CRUMBS
Ensemble Economique (Not Not Fun Records, Denovali Records) is the solo project of former Starving Weirdos member Brian Pyle. Ensemble Economique has crossed a land bridge from apocryphal world music and dusty soundtracks to gauzy 4AD-style atmospherics. Trellises of guitar embolden Pyle’s whispered, threadbare lyrics.
As Purple Pilgrims twins Clementine and Valentine Adams (currently based deep in the Coromandel wilderness) combine delicate, hypnotic vocals that hover gently above spectral waves of guitar,
exotic abstraction and the feel off muzzy choral music with an undersea fidelity, as subtle beds of rhythm lock step in the distance.
Cookie Brooklyn and the Crumbs inhabit the borderland between the in and the out.
